Departamento de Matemática

Yuri Dumaresq Sobral

I am a professor at the Departmento de Matemática, of the Instituto de Ciências Exatas of the Universidade de Brasília.  I got my PhD in 2008 at the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics of the University of Cambridge, where I worked under the supervision of Prof. E.J. Hinch, trying to understand instabilities in fluidised beds. While in Cambridge, I was a member of  Churchill College and I was fully supported by the Ministry of Education of Brazil, through the agency CAPES. You can find me at y.d.sobral ./at/. .

Previously, I took my B.Sc. (1996-2001) and M.Sc. (2002-2004) at the Universidade de Brasília, under the supervision of Prof. Francisco Ricardo da Cunha, the coordinator of the Vortex Group, who is one of my major collaborators. In 1999, I was approved on a national examination process to take part in the Integrated Brazilian-French Program for Scientific Areas, also sponsored by CAPES, and I had the opportunity to spend one year of my undergraduate course at the École Centrale de Lyon.

I am currently a member of the SBMAC - Brazilian Society of Computational and Applied Mathematics (since 2000) and of the SBM - Brazilian Society of Mathematics (since 2004). While I was in Cambridge, I joined the Churchill College Phoenix Society and the Churchill College Middle Common Room.
